Málaga is cheapest in January, and also in November, when the beach season winds down. It is most expensive in April, around Holy Week and the Semana Santa processions, when rates can rise by more than a third. Within the week the lowest prices fall on Sunday and Monday, the highest on Thursday. Booking about three months before arrival usually gives the best prices, since close to the date, especially in summer, cheap availability disappears fast.

Location affects the price as much as the standard. The cheapest area is Cruz de Humilladero, where stays can be up to half the price of the seaside centre. The priciest is the Downtown area near the port and the beach, while the most booked is the historic Centro around the cathedral and Calle Marqués de Larios. Other popular areas, such as Churriana or the seafront districts, fall pricewise between these ends.

Málaga has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild winters. The most pleasant time to explore is spring, from March to May, and autumn, from September to November, when it is warm and the crowds are thinner. Summer, from June to August, is the peak of the beach season, with the highest occupancy and prices. Rates are also pushed up by big events, above all the Semana Santa in April and the Feria de Agosto in August.
The average price of a double room is around € 190 per night, but the spread is wide. A hostel bed starts from about € 30, a 3-star hotel from about € 100, and five-star properties from about € 280. Last-minute deals occasionally bring single rooms down to around € 25.
January is the cheapest, and so is November, when the beach season winds down. April is the most expensive, during the Semana Santa, when prices rise by more than a third. Summer is also pricey, with the influx of beach tourists.
You get the best prices by booking around three months before arrival. For summer and the Semana Santa rooms sell out much earlier, so for those dates it is worth booking well ahead.
The lowest rates fall on Sunday and Monday, the highest on Thursday. If your dates are flexible, starting your stay early in the week helps bring down the average price per night.
Around Málaga-Costa del Sol airport there are several hotels with airport transfers, such as Hotel Zen Airport and nearby chain properties. A handy choice for an early flight or a short layover on the way to the Costa del Sol.
Cruz de Humilladero is the cheapest, up to half the price of the seaside centre. The priciest is the Downtown area by the port and the beach, while the most booked is the historic Centro around the cathedral and the Calle Marqués de Larios promenade.
